LOWELL SPILLER AND MARK SPILLER TAKE THE WIN!!
Smithland Pool, July 22, 2007, by FutureBass

33 boats converged on Smithland Pool on nothing short of a fantastic day weather wise with sunny skies and temps in the mid eighties. Depending on who you talked to the bite was either very good or very poor during the practice the day before. The weights weren't high but there were a lot of fish caught during this event.

The first place team of Lowell Spiller from Mulkeytown, IL. and Mark Spiller of Herrin, IL. Started the day in a creek throwing crankbaits and spinnerbaits. As the day wore on they switched to tube jigs and trick worms and culled all the earlier fish out. They concentrated their efforts in 2 to 3 feet of water and culled through 12 keepers to end the day with a total weight of 11.80lbs and earned checks totaling $1,410.00 for the win.

In the second place position was the team of Butch Craig from Stonefort, IL. and Bill Penrod of Harrisburg, IL. After starting at their initial spot and coming up empty the team headed up the creek and pulled up to a spot and very quickly boated 4 keeper fish. They pounded the area all day using a variety of plastics and boated seven keeper fish. They fished water depths from 1 to 10 feet and ended the day with a total weight of 11.73lbs and earned checks totaling $965.00 for the position.

In the third place position was the team of Rick Byrnes from Tamaroa, IL. and Chuck Spradley of Desoto, IL. The team had a rough start to the day and three hours into the event had yet to boat a keeper. They then boated about one fish per hour using a combination of worms, jigs, Lucky Craft BDS1 crankbaits and spinnerbaits. They had a total weight of 10.89lbs anchored by the big bass of the day weighing in at 4.54lbs that was caught within the last few minutes of the day. The team earned checks totaling $975.00 on the day. Sponsors: Lucky Craft, BassCat, Mercury, Lowrance, MotorGuide, FutureBass.com and Angler's Choice
