MALONE TOPS BASS FISHING LEAGUE FIELD
Paul Malone wins the May 16th FLW Outdoors Bass Fishing League Event

Bettendorf, Iowa – RC Tackle is proud to report that Pleasant Valley, Iowa angler Paul Malone won the first 2010 FLW Outdoors Bass Fishing League (BFL) Great Lakes division event on May 16 by beating out 143 other boaters.

Malone who used a black/blue ¼ oz. RC Tackle swimming jig and blue sapphire Gordo Grub to catch his winning limit of 18 lb. 8 oz, including the 4 lb. 14 oz. tournament big bass was thrilled to finally get a BFL win under his belt.  “Things just worked out perfect for me on Saturday and I was fortunate enough to have my five areas all to myself,” stated Malone.

The tournament waters for this event included pools 7 through 9 of the Mississippi River and upon the tournament launch out of La Crosse, WI, Malone headed north to pool 7 where he fished scattered vegetation.  The area Paul fished he found the Saturday before the tournament and knew things would be tougher come tournament day when on Friday he only caught 3 keeper bass.  The fish he found in practice were up shallow and with the week’s cold weather they moved back down to deeper water.

On a day where many anglers failed to bring in a limit, Malone commented that he caught a lot of bass that day by popping the RC swim jig out of the vegetation.  “It was a real reaction type bite and the braided line spooled on my Shimano reel on my 7’6” MH action Shimano rod, allowed me to get the action I wanted out of the bait and then get the fish to the boat,” stated Paul.

Besides fishing the complete BFL Great Lakes division this year, with the hopes of qualifying for the Regional on Kentucky Lake, Paul fishes the Angler’s Choice Savanna division, Bass World Sports divisions on the Mississippi River and other large open events.
