Throughout the centuries, the mythical, mighty dragon has been described as fierce, formidable, stealthy, and virtually indestructible.  Like the flexible, lithe, and armored scales of a Dragon, TATSU has a tough, but soft exterior, while hiding an inner strength incomparable to any other line on the planet. TATSU is a Double Structure Fluorocarbon (DSF) line. Made with two custom, 100% Seaguar Fluorocarbon resins, extruded in one solid piece, TATSU is simply the best of the very best in Seaguar lines.  No other competitor can match Seaguar's proprietary extrusion process that releases the performance power of this uniquely structured line. Seaguar's strongest and softest line, TATSU is the apex of Fluorocarbon

I was recently given an opportunity to evaluate the new Tatsu fluorocarbon line from Seaguar. Being a big fan of Seaguar already, it was an offer that I obviously could not refuse. I had a great opportunity to use this line fishing the WBFN State Tournament in Sturgeon Bay, WI this last weekend. This line is terrific, here is how I would break it down at first glance on a scale of 0-10 (10 being excellent):

-          Construction/Quality (smooth, high quality line): 8

-          Performance (above average sensitivity, abrastion resistance): 9

-          Price (opposed to other FC lines on the market): 6

-          Features (visibility, strength of knots): 10

-          Application (Great Drop Shot line): 9

Abrasion resistance is very good as I never broke off a fish in practice nor during the tournament. Very impressive, given the rock bottom and the presence of zebra mussels. The 10lb line even casts easy on a baitcaster, which very uncharacteristic of lightweight line on casting gear. Palomar knot was easy to tie and never seemed to work itself loose and visibility was obviously VERY low in clear water, which is what you want when conditions are tough. The only negative review I have for Tatsu would be the price at $40 for 200yd, but I truly believe that you are getting what you pay for.

The primary setup that I caught all weighed in fish on included the following:

Elk River 7’ Medium Action Casting Rod

Shimano Curado 201E7 (7.0:1) Casting Reel

Seaguar Tatsu 10lb Flourocarbon

Gamakatsu Drop/Split Shot hook – 1/0

4” Green Pumpkin/Copper Flake wacky rigged senko

16-18” drop shot leader

This setup turned out to be key to catching quality fish on a consistent basis, and breaking down the setup further, I did find that the line I used made the biggest impact on my ability to out-fish others nearby. Both days, my co-angler would watch me bring in multiple fish that would well exceed 3lbs and ask what it is I’m doing different. I offered both of them my exact setup, minus the line obviously, and had them try it out themselves to see if it helped them put fish in the boat, to no avail. This line outperformed not only my co-anglers, but all other boats around me and 115 other anglers in the tournament. I’d say the results speak for themselves and I will be purchasing more of this line. With the help of this product, I was able to weigh in 6 fish (3 fish limit per day) for 23.46lbs, taking 5th place overall and earning a boater spot on the 2011 Wisconsin State Team! Thank you Seaguar and thank you Futurebass.com for giving me the opportunity to evaluate this line!
